This design is based on the Messerschmitt Bf 109 "Black Chevron & Bars" flown by Luftwaffe Ace Oberstleutnant Adolf Galland of Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26) Schlageter. On August 9th, 1941, RAF Ace Douglas Bader bailed out over France and was subsequently captured and sent to hospital in a small French town. After leaving hospital, Bader was invited to visit an airfield by Adolf Galland whom he had engaged in the skies over the Channel a few weeks before. Bader was treated with great respect by Galland and was even allowed to sit in the cockpit of Galland’s personal BF 109. Bader cheekily asked Galland if there was any chance of taking the plane for a spin. Unsurprisingly, Galland politely refused his request. After the war, Galland became friends with many former enemies such as Douglas Bader and RAF Ace Robert Stanford Tuck with Stanford Tuck becoming godfather to Galland’s son Andreas.
